Goisfried and Walter de Bek - Visionaries of 1066

In 1066, Goisfried and Walter de Bek accompanied their cousin, William, Duke of Normandy, on an expedition across the English channel, landing at a small place called Hastings.  Awarded several baronnies for their troubles, they began a long and colorful history in England which included Antony Bek, the Fighting Bishop of Durham.  Their coat of arms crossed with them, was registered in the 1100s, and forms our Vineyard logo today.

Their descendant through Henry 1,  Rev John Beck of North Carolina, owned a 15,000 acre plantaion he termed "Beck's Baronny", although it was probably not, in fact, an actual King's Grant Baronny.  He later married Anne Huguenin of Roseland Plantation, South Carolina, and their son, Joseph Huguenin Beck emigrated westward to Texas shortly before the Civil War.  The Becks have been in Texas ever since, as planter, ranchers, farmers, educators, and more.  Joseph Huguenin Beck founded the comunity of China Grove, Texas, made famous in song.

Today, the heritage lives on in Beck's Baronny Vineyards.
